About Us...
Pleasant Grove Farms, LLC is located 20 minutes from downtown Myrtle Beach, SC. A private family operation, the farm was established in 2008 and one of the greater Myrtle Beach area’s best kept secrets. Sandy and Van Davenport, being outdoor enthusiasts as well as residents of the Grand Strand for greater than 40 years, constructed a picturesque farm compound in such a manner as to create a tranquil atmosphere reflective of our appreciation of the great outdoors, our love of horses, and our admiration and respect for cattle. Â
In the spirit of true cowboys, all of our Registered Black Angus cattle are raised naturally under one operation from start to finish using sustainable ranching practices.Â
Our boutique Farm to Table beef program assures that every cut of beef is from the same herd, raised in an all-natural environment with no antibiotics, steroids or hormones.
Our cattle herd is fed using grasses and forages available along the coastal plain. Grazed on lush pastures the way nature intended, cattle receive access to forage 24/7 yearlong. The herd enjoys a natural breeding and birthing system.
Our calves are 100% Black Angus and are raised on mother’s milk, grass and quality grains, remaining with their mothers until weaning at about 7 months of age. This regiment produces great tasting nutrient-dense beef of exceptional flavor with consistent quality which is lean and tender. At approximately 15 months of age the animals typically weigh around 1,150 to 1,250 lbs. and are ready for market.
Every cow and every calf are raised, treated and managed humanely with top shelf care. This environment reduces stress on the animal, in turn, providing our customers with superior beef with high marbling content which is incredibly flavorful, tender and juicy.
We invite you to come by and ‘saddle up’ or walk through our herd with us.

In our present economy, retail beef prices continue to rise. Given increased cost due to supply chain issues, short supply and ever-increasing demand, this trend is expected to continue.
Savvy consumers have turned to local producers for farm to table alternatives. Bulk beef offers the consumer an opportunity for cost savings, with the satisfaction and knowledge as to the quality experienced when buying locally raised 100% Black Angus Beef. In additionally, consumers have the ability to control their selection of beef cuts based on individual tastes and needs.
At Pleasant Grove Farms, LLC, we offer quarter, half, or whole sides of beef from our Registered Black Angus cattle herd. Customers may personally select an animal from our ranch.Â
At harvest, we then transport your selection to a USDA certified processor. Transportation and delivery are included in the price.
Fourteen days after processing, your 100% Angus Beef is ready for butchering into the personalized cuts of your choosing, i.e., rib-eyes, filets, tenderloins, roasts, prime rib, ground beef or other cuts as may be preferred. We will provide a standard cut sheet allowing your personal selections. This will then be utilized by the butcher with whom you will communicate directly. Processing Fees are paid direct by the customer to the processor and as a general rule are +/- $1.20 per pound. Cuts are vacuum sealed to protect against freezer burn and dehydration providing fresher meats for year-round freshness
There are 3 weights used in the beef industry – live weight, hanging weight a.k.a dressed weight and packaged weight.
Live weight is obvious.
Hanging Weight or Dressed Weight is that weight reported by the meat processor. This weight averages approximately 60% of the animal’s live weight.Â
Packaged weight is how much beef you put into your freezer.Â
At Pleasant Grove Farms, LLC, our pricing is based on Hanging Weight or Dressed weight.
Understanding that every animal is different, following is an example:
1250-pound live weight x .60 = 750 pound hanging weight Â
- Half cow = 375 pounds
- Whole cow = 750 pounds
As a general guide you should plan for 35 lbs. meat per cubic foot of freezer space. A standard kitchen refrigerator/freezer combo is typically 7 cubic feet. A freezer area of this size when empty should allow approximately 245 lbs. of Black Angus beef.
While every animal is different, in general, in a one-half side of beef there are approximately 12 roasts, 14 t-bone steaks, 5 sirloin steaks, 5 sirloin tip steaks, 14 rib-eye steaks, and 6 round steaks. Other cuts may include short ribs, flank steak, stew meat, brisket, ground beef, ox tail and liver. You can choose to have any of these cuts made into ground beef. Working with the processor, you can customize these and other selections to suit your individual needs.
